Charter rights of persons ostomy

It was stated in an objective manner by the International Asssociation of people ostomy ostomy any person shall be entitled to a satisfactory quality of life postoperatively and that this charter will be realized globally.

The ostomy person shall have the right :

  • Receive assistance preoperatively to ensure it is fully aware of the benefits of surgery and the reality of living with a stoma.
  • Having a stoma properly constructed and located at a suitable place for their comfort.
  • Receive complete and unbiased information for supplies relevant and available in their respective countries.
  • Having the opportunity to choose among the range of products available, without prejudice or compulsion.
  • Being informed of their ostomy association of persons and services and support that may be procured.
  • Receive support and information for the benefit of the family, workmates and friends to increase their understanding of conditions and adjustments necessary to achieve a satisfactory quality of life while living with an ostomy.
  • Be assured that personal information about a stoma will be treated with discretion and confidentiality to safeguard their privacy.
